Top Metal Albums of 2016

It's my blog, I do what I want! I may write more in-depth blurbs about the top few tiers soon enough.

THE BEST METAL ALBUMS OF 2016 (According to me)
I listened to so much metal in the last month, trying to catch those albums I missed or glossed over earlier in the year. Extensive revisions have been made over the past few days. Truly, this was a ridiculous year for metal, with many newcomers as well as veteran bands putting out their best albums. Everything from old school heavy metal to avant-garde black metal had its moment this year.
I decided to do a list of the top 50 metal LPs, arranged into tiers since picking minutely between each album was too difficult with such a great volume of music and profusion of styles.

But first, the top Demos and EPs!
Benthik Zone – Cyclum Vitam D’Aqua Pollutio (EP)
Boreworm – Entomophobia (EP)
Gnipahalan – Flögo de Bort (Demo) and Gnipahalan (Demo)
Ljáin – Endasálmar (EP) and Klofnar Tungur (EP)
Mylingar – Döda Vägar (EP)

Deathspell Omega – The Synarchy of Molten Bones

Yes, Deathspell Omega narrowly stole AOTY status from Mithras, but only by a sliver! While it will take me a while to decide how "Synarchy" stacks up to DsO's previous masterpieces, I think I can say with confidence that "On Strange Loops" is Mithras's best album, and any year without a DsO release, they would have gotten AOTY. It is simply not for us mortals to understand the likes of Deathspell Omega... reviewing the damn thing just doesn't make any sense. Listen, and be moved. If you want to see His monument, look around you...…/the-synarchy-of-molt…
